Surrounding Forest

The Danum Valley Conservation Area is embedded within an exceptionally large (1 million hectare) forest concession, which is managed by Yayasan Sabah the Yayasan Sabah Forest Management Area. Much of the YSFMA is accessible for research use and includes extensive areas of forest under management for timber production (approx. 750,000 hectares), a number of large and important primary forest protected areas (including the Maliau Basin and Imbak Canyon Conservation Areas) which, together with Danum, cover approximately 150,000 hectares, two or the SE Asia's largest forest rehabilitation projects (including the Infapro project located close to Danum Valley) and agricultural and exotic timber plantations. Details can be found in the drop-down menu on this page.
