SEARRP is also funded and supported by:

The Royal Society's South East Asia Rainforest Research Programme (SEARRP) was established in 1985 in response to mounting concern over the future of SE Asia's rainforests and through a conviction that by gaining a scientific understanding of tropical rainforest systems, ecology and dynamics a significant contribution could be made to their sustainable management and conservation - particularly in the context of global environmental change. Although the scope of the Programme includes all of SE Asia, our efforts are primarily focussed at one site in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo - the Danum Valley Conservation Area.

The reason for our focus on Danum Valley is that the most important questions in tropical rainforest research often require long-term observations and experiments supported by the necessary technical staff and infrastructure. It is the aim of SEARRP, with our Malaysian partners, to provide this support at the Danum Valley Field Centre.

The programme section has information on the services and support provided by SEARRP, including details of how to apply for membership of the programme and the procedure for gaining approval to do research in Malaysia. The Danum section includes background information on the Danum Valley Conservation Area and surrounding forest, detailed climate records and the costs of staying and working at the field centre. The research section lists the SEARRP research themes, current and completed projects and a list of SEARRP publications. The training section has information on the support available for Malaysian and SE Asian students and for universities and other organisations interested in running field courses at Danum. The contacts section includes links to our Malaysian and SE Asian partner organisations, Sabah-based NGOs, research and conservation organisations, airlines, hotels and Sabah-based travel agencies and other useful contacts.
