Health, Safety & Emergency Procedures
SEARRP takes its duty of care to visiting scientists and its own staff extremely seriously - especially in light of the relatively remote location of Danum Valley.
All of our full-time RAs and Programme Manager have advanced trained in first aid and search and rescue techniques. SEARRP maintains comprehensive first aid kits at Danum, and medical evacuation procedures are in place (using either road or helicopter) in the case of serious injury or illness.
Danum Valley and the surrounding forest have VHF radio coverage and scientists working in the field are able to maintain radio contact with SEARRP, Danum Valley and Yayasan Sabah staff. SEARRP also keeps a satellite phone at the field centre for emergency use.
Should you have any questions relating to health and safety issues at Danum Valley, or require details of our emergency response plan, please contact glen@searrp.org. A copy of our risk assessment can be downloaded here.
