University Field Course

The Danum Valley Field Centre provides an ideal venue for training in tropical ecology, geography, conservation and natural resource management - we currently host regular field courses from several leading UK, European, American and Australian universities.

Danum can accommodate groups of over 60 students, has a large teaching lab and an audio/visual-equipped lecture theatre. SEARRP can offer full in-country support to visiting universities including:

  • Pre-course planning and advice

  • Travel arrangements - this can include flights to Sabah from Kuala Lumpur or other regional hubs, flights within Sabah (Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu) and vehicle transfers to Danum Valley

  • Transit hotel reservations in Kuala Lumpur or Kota Kinabalu (or other regional hubs)

  • Room reservations and other arrangements at Danum Valley

  • Fieldwork support - including use of our team of research assistants

  • Teaching input - especially in the fields of forest management and conservation

  • Arranging excursions to other field sites/venues within Sabah

  • Health and safety training and emergency planning and back-up
If you would like to discuss the possibilities of running a field course at Danum, or require a quotation, please contact glen@searrp.org
