Safeguarding

Safeguarding

SEARRP is committed to creating and maintaining a safeguarded environment for the people and partners who work with us, including any children or vulnerable adults with whom we may engage. We actively promote a safe, caring, tolerant and rewarding environment for all of our staff and scientists, students, interns and volunteers – including those of partner organisations who work and visit with our programme.

We have a robust safeguarding framework in place through which we aim to ensure that everyone is treated professionally and respectfully and enables people to internally raise any safety or duty-of-care concerns that they might have – with the assurance that these will be taken seriously and acted upon. This includes a zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment, a no-retaliation policy on complaints, a broader employee code of conduct, cultural guidance for visiting scientists and students and robust procedures for transparent, impartial investigations including a whistleblower policy and procedure.

We regularly review the policies and procedures in our safeguarding framework with the aim of improving our practices and enhance effectiveness of SEARRP’s commitment to safeguarding and delivery of our duty-of-care. We also conduct regular training to enhance knowledge and understanding among our staff and others involved with our programme, irrespective of their position or seniority.

To ensure that we continually maintain the highest standards of safeguarding, we monitor guidance from the UK and Malaysian Governments, the UK Charity Commission and other recognised organisations on procedures and protocols for safeguarding – and aim to benchmark our standards against sector best-practice.

Our policy on sexual harassment, code of conduct, whistleblowing and complaints procedures are outlined in the following downloadable documents.
